Maths HSC Past Papers


Our wide range of resources are carefully curated to help students prepare for their exams and feel confident in their abilities. Sample papers dating back years are available for students to grasp the trends and range of questions they must understand in order to achieve their academic goals. The compilation of HSC maths papers enables students to actively practice a range of complex problems in order to prepare themselves for the final exam. Students will be better equipped to interpret, analyse and respond to questions when they make effective use of past papers as they are able to familiarise themselves with the concepts that are targeted and practice their time management skills

 PERMITTED SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS IN HIGHER SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS FOR 2021-22

  • NESA gives permission to a calculator list for the purpose of its application in exam and in ensuring the fairness and integrity of the HSC examination

  • NESA approved HSC Calculator may be used in these HSC examinations. Students are allowed to use an approved calculator are listed on the exam equipment list page of the NESA website.

Calculator features that are not permitted

A NESA approved scientific calculator must NOT have these feature:

  • be programmable (A calculator that can have a sequence of operations stored and then executed automatically is considered programmable)

  • must not have graph data or storage, manipulate or graph functions facilities

  • Must not have computer algebraic system (CAS) functionality. This functionality includes:

    • must not have numeric routines for differentiation and definite integration, and the solution of equations

    • Provides symbolic manipulations such as addition of algebraic expressions, binomial expansion symbolic differentiation and integration

  • Perform financial calculations: depreciation, annuities, simple and compound interest, and break-even point.

Features of approved calculators

In NESA approved scientific calculators include features:

  • those can have operate with percentages, absolute values, factorials, π and 𝑒

  • calculate in scientific notation: EXP or ×10𝑥

  • calculate all standard powers and roots: 𝑥² and ; 𝑥³ and  ; 𝑥𝑛 and 

  • calculate reciprocals: 𝑥-1 or 

  • evaluate logarithms and exponentials functions: log 𝑥, ln 𝑥, log𝑛 𝑥, 10𝑥 and 𝑒𝑥

  • give results of standard trigonometric and inverse trigonometric values: sin 𝑥, cos 𝑥, tan 𝑥, sin-1𝑥, cos-1𝑥 and tan-1𝑥

  • Give results of permutations and combinations: 𝑛𝑃𝑟 and 𝑛𝐶𝑟

  • convert in polar and Cartesian forms

  • Perform basic statistical operations that are sum, mean, population and sample standard deviation, variance, regression, maximum and minimum values, median and quartiles.
